I LOVE planning a fun celebration vacation! At the moment I’m working with several groups to plan birthday vacations. Some are girls trips and others are couples beach vacations. And a few are big, bucket-list family trips to celebrate a milestone birthday.
In fact, I’m working on planning my OWN 40th birthday vacation! While it’s still a few years away, I’m planning on an epic friends and family adventure somewhere that involves an amazing beach. I have a few ideas floating around, and still gathering ideas. I’ll be sure to keep you posted as plans unfold;)
In the meantime, if you are looking for birthday vacation ideas or have a big birthday coming up and want to celebrate by traveling – here are a few of the trips my clients are raving about at the moment!
Hotel UNICO 2087 in Mexico
Hotel UNICO is the newest all-inclusive to open on Mexico’s Riviera Maya. You can read my full review of the property here. This resort checks all the boxes for a fun birthday getaway; adults-only, emphasis on good food and drinks, large pool area and easy access via Cancun. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, making it easy to share with friends. And Cancun Mexico is very accessible with flights from most major cities in the United States, making this an ideal destination for a quick weekend away at the beach.
Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana
Particularly if you live on the East Coast of the United States, it’s easy to get to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. (But if you’re like me and live in the West it’s a bit more tricky!) Excellence resorts always offer great value for money, and really cater to this kind of celebration.
Excellence El Carmen is an adults only property but has a lively atmosphere, not a quiet and overly romantic vibe, which is always that I look for in a resort when planning a celebration vacation. And if you have a larger group, consider working with their events team to plan a special dinner on the beach or other fun group activities to further the celebration!
Naxos in the Greek Islands
For a really special family getaway, how about a week in the islands of Greece!? Spend a couple of nights exploring Athens, and then hit the beach!
Naxos is my top recommendation for families interested in booking a villa in Greece for a few reasons. Náxos is the biggest and the greenest island in Cyclades with impressively high mountains, fertile valleys, lush green gorges, stunning seascapes and traditional villages perched high on mountain tops, where the inhabitants still wear their traditional dress and live off the fruits of the land! Náxos is also an island of beautiful old churches, monasteries and Venetian castles coexisting harmoniously with Cycladic cubic houses.
Here you have a lot of options for beaches, walking around towns, archaeological sites, sailing, and touring. It is a very family friendly island. Furthermore, from here it is possible to take little day trips to other islands as well (which is not possible, for example, if you’re staying on Santorini).
Yacht Charter in the Virgin Islands
If you love the beach, enjoy staying active while on vacation, and are looking for something a little different than an all inclusive beach resort, BVI catamaran charters might be right for your family or group of friends. Yachts can carry anywhere from 4 to 12 people. Perfect for a couples trip or 2 families traveling together.
And don’t worry – you don’t actually need to know how to sail! You can charter a catamaran two different ways; as a fully crewed, all-inclusive package, or as a bareboat. The all inclusive, BVI crewed yacht charter option is pretty straightforward. Everything is included. But with a bareboat option, you have a captain and cook, but all food, drink, extra water toys, mooring fees, and fuel are your responsibility on site. A bareboat charter can be several thousand dollars cheaper than a fully crewed catamaran. However, before booking a bareboat charter be sure to consider all the extras and weigh that in to the final price.
