Our family travel adventure around Central America has come to an end and I’ve had a chance to reflect on what proved to be a most wonderful experience.
I loved watching my kids splash in the waves in Puerto Viejo on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.
Traversing a hanging bridge over the famous River Pacuare was a memorable, impromptu Central America rainy season adventure thanks to unplanned road closures.
I’ll always remember where I was when we watched the Fare The Well Grateful Dead shows with a friendly crew in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica (getting called outside every so often when a sloth crossed the road or a kinkajou was spotted high in the trees.)
Having my morning coffee while writing in a central garden in Granada, Nicaragua was an excellent way to experience a more local side of this colorful, colonial city.
My daughter and I learned to surf in Nicaragua, and you can bet it won’t be the last time we’re on a surfboard!
And my kids have also been reflecting on this experience in their own way.
Of course they also remember the major moments (ziplining! seeing a real volcano!), but will also bring up smaller observations. How playing with local children at a park in a remote area of Nicaragua is different from the playgrounds in our neighborhood at home.
They have been telling friends about seeing the red tree frog in Costa Rica on a night walk through the jungle on the grounds of the beautiful Hotel Parador near Manual Antonio National Park.
I’ve been overhearing my daughter talk about learning how chocolate starts out as “goo” inside the seed on a chocolate tour in Puerto Viejo and my son talk about the small fish in the water hole at the bottom of a waterfall we found in Costa Rica.
I’d like to share a heartfelt thanks to all of our sponsors on this journey. It is truly an honor to tell your story and share your experiences with family travelers. I can heartily recommend these family-friendly travel companies, and of course always happy to answer questions at any time about our experiences.
Here are the amazing travel companies with whom we worked, in alphabetical order.
Thank you for following my Central America family travel blog. Here’s to the next adventure!
