Best Things to do in Jamaica with Kids

Over the past month or so I’ve had countless conversations with my clients who have recently traveled to Mexico, and are ready to plan their next family vacation a bit further afar. Caribbean Islands (Dominican Republic, Jamaica) and Central America are leading destinations among these families right now.
Jamaica has been a really popular destination for my families lately, and for good reason. There are so many amazing things to do in Jamaica with kids… besides enjoy the amazing beaches! (In fact, my kids and I will be traveling to Jamaica in June to check out some of the best properties for families as well as experience a few new, family friendly excursions around the island – so stay tuned for much much more!)

Reef Snorkeling

Enjoy a private boat ride and an hour of snorkeling at one of Negril’s most tropical reefs – see an old shipwrecked anchor and cannon as well as breathtaking and exotic marine life. Following your snorkel, take a brief walk through the trail of Booby Cay, a quaint offshore island of Negril. The snorkel adventure ends with a swim between a few hidden caves and an authentic Jamaican breakfast at a local restaurant.

River Tubing and the Blue Hole

This is one of my favorite things to do in Jamaica with kids! Set out on a relaxing, floating journey along three miles of the beautiful White River before visiting the Blue Hole in Jamaica, one of the island’s most iconic natural attractions. Float past a 17th century Spanish Bridge over limestone riverbeds, under arching bamboo and past a historic coconut plantation before reaching the Blue Hole. Here you can climb along the many waterfalls and jump off the rocks into natural swimming pools. Kids love exploring these hidden, underwater caves and tunnels and an exciting rope swing! Tour is about 4 hours.

Luminous Lagoon

Jamaica’s only nighttime attraction, the Luminous Lagoon is one of four of the world’s bodies of water that light up with a turquoise glow. Located on the outskirts of Montego Bay, the lagoon’s microscopic organisms emit a phosphorescent light when touched. Enjoy a swim in the water so you can see your own body radiate a turquoise glow! Following the tour of the lagoon, sit down for dinner at the Glistening Waters Restaurant, which overlooks the marina.

Sunset at Rick’s Cafe

Named one of the world’s most famous bars, you cannot miss a trip to Rick’s Café while vacationing in Jamaica! Watch the professional cliff divers and perhaps try a few jumps yourself. Rick’s is the perfect spot to catch an infamous Jamaican sunset. Dance to the live reggae band, enjoy exotic cocktails or take a dip in the pool…this attraction is always busy and great for kids as well!

Reggae Catamaran Cruise

Take in the wonders of the island from the best seat in the house on board the Island Routes Reggae Family Catamaran Cruise. Get ready for a fun-filled day as you set sail to one of the island’s best snorkeling spots filled with exotic marine life. On board, you can sit back and relax whilst soaking up the sun with a tropical refreshment in one hand and a tasty snack in the other, all accompanied by the best reggae beats! Then, we’ll head over to the world famous Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville where the fun continues. Bounce on water trampolines and splash around in the Caribbean Sea.

Jamaica Countryside Tour

Through this truly unique journey, explore one small community and one small village. Visit a local community’s nursery and elementary schools. Guests are welcomed to sit in on a lesson, play with students and donate school supplies. The tour continues with an exotic fruit tasting in a Rastafarian garden. Rasta farmers give our guests insight on their organic lifestyle and offer a guided tour through their farm. The Countryside Tour also gives visitors the opportunity to step inside a local’s home & stroll down a fisherman’s beach. Enjoy an authentic Jamaican lunch before ending your tour with a swim in a secret swimming hole and hike up a small village mountain to catch a breathtaking view of the nearby plantation.
