Hawaii for Families – Westin Maui Pool

A beach vacation in Hawaii is one of the easiest options for families with young children. Sure, you have an overnight flight in some cases, BUT with direct flights from cities across the US it’s not really a difficult day of travel. Very do-able!

The island of Maui offers a range of great accommodation options as well as a TON for families to do. Between the iconic Ka’anapali Beach on the west side of the island and the ease of driving around the island, this is a beautiful and easy destination for young families to explore.

The Westin Maui Resort and Spa, located right on Ka’anapali Beach, is my top recommendation for families in Hawaii largely because of the fabulous pool area. Here’s what you need to know about the Westin Maui pool.

Amazing Resort Pool Area

The 87,000 square-foot aquatic playground at the Westin Maui features five pools, a Jacuzzi, two water slides, a swim-through grotto and hidden whirlpool. All of the swimming pools are interconnected with each other so you can literally swim from one pool to the other.

The highlight for kids is a 120-foot water slide, built into a hillside and sporting 270-degree twists and a 23-foot drop. The pool area also offers inflatable flotation rings, which the kids can personalize with magic markers! Very fun.

There is an adults only area of the pool, which is a great option if you need a little down time. Send the kids to the (amazing!) kids club at the Westin and enjoy a few hours of quiet relaxation at the Westin Maui pool. Located on a platform above all the main pools, you’l find this separate adults only area tucked away amongst the tropical gardens as well as a secluded Jacuzzi.

Activities During the Day

If you’re not off exploring the island, there is plenty for the kids to do with a day at the pool.

During the day yo’ll fin volleyball and basketball games popping up around the pool area. There is also a smaller waterslide for the younger kids (the pirate ship below). Two of the pools are connected by a pool tunnel which has waterfalls cascading over both entrances and a hidden Jacuzzi type pool inside the tunnel, so lots to explore.

All of the pools have different depths for each one, so you should be able to find a good spot for your kids to swim in. Getting a lounge chair by the pool is usually not an issue, there are plenty around the pool area.

Gazebos and Cabanas for Reservation at the Westin Maui Pool

If you’re planning on hanging out at the Westin Maui pool during your beach vacation, consider reserving these in advance as they do book up. There are Gazebos and Cabanas, described below, and start at about $75 per day to rent.

GAZEBO* – A large 10 x 10 tent with cushioned lounges with side tables, chairs and an ice chest. Price includes cold water service and Maui Gold pineapple wedges.

CABANA* – Ocean facing side-by-side lounge seating for 2 guests with thick cushions and a flexible shade. Price includes cold water service and Maui Gold pineapple wedges.

Ka’anapali Beach

As if the pools were not enough, the Westin Maui resort is situated on prime Ka’anapali beachfront. Just past the Westin Maui pool area and the beachwalk is the beautiful Ka’anapali Beach. With white sands and clear blue waters, this is the best beach on Maui for sure. This white sand beach is about 3 miles long and about half of that distance is lined with a great paved beachwalk towards the top of the beach. A really nice walk along the beach is the 1/2 mile stroll north to Black Rock which has fun surf, a famous cliff dive and great snorkeling right from the beach.

** Also worth mentioning, in the same general area on Ka’anapali beach the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas and the NEW Westin Nanea Ocean Villas (just opened) are 1-3 bedroom villas + all the resort style amenities everyone loves (pools, restaurants, kids club).  More on that in another post!
